Women's Spirituality Group

Deaconess Debbie will be facilitating a Women's Spirituality Group beginning in October. Please join us for our first meeting on Monday, October 4th from 7:00 - 8:30pm. We will decide at this meeting what is the best day and time for this monthly group.

Wednesday Adult Bible Study

Bible Basics for Students

Third-graders and their parents are invited to the Bible Basics for Students class which offers some hands-on time for students to get to know their Bible. The class is Saturday, September 18th, 4:00-5:00pm, followed by a light supper. Older students who have not yet taken this class are also invited to attend. Questions? Ask Deaconess Debbie at 708-848-4741.

We will be presenting Bibles in worship on Sunday, September 19th to children who are age 3, in 3rd grade or 7th grade. Please plan on attending worship at either service that Sunday.

Sunday School Begins

Join us for a kick-off celebration on Sunday, September 12th at 9:15am in the Sanctuary of our Sunday school year. This event is for both students and their parents - we will be highlighting the coming year and getting to know Deaconess Debbie. If you haven't registered for Sunday school yet, now is your chance. We will also be recruiting volunteers to be age group leaders or to lead the rotations each Sunday. We will follow with refreshments in Fellowship Hall. Please bring your favorite treats to share. Regular Sunday school classes begin September 19th.

If you would like to sign up to be a rotation leader, the Volunteer Board is in the Narthex.

High Schoolers - Weekend Retreat - September 24th - 26th

Mark your calendars - The Youth Group will be going to White Pines Ranch in Oregon, IL for a weekend retreat. Dates are Friday - Sunday, September 24th - 26th. Out-of-pocket costs will be approximately $50.00 per participant (meals included). White Pines offers horseback riding, campfires, hiking in the sandstone canyons and more! Wanna Get Away to Great America?

All confirmation students and youth (entering grades 7 - 12) - we are going to Great America on Saturday, August 7th. We will leave from church at 9:00am and return at 10:00pm. RSVPs and permission slips are required for this event. Chaperones and drivers are also needed. Christian Education Meeting - July 27

Do you feel the pull of curious minds calling you? Do you love the smiles and laughter of children of all ages? Do you have a spiritual journey that you would like to share with others? Then you are being called to Christian Education. We will be having a planning meeting to set up committees for the various pieces of Christian Ed, and to talk about activities for the upcoming school year on Tuesday, July 27th at 7:15 p.m. in the Library here at Good Shepherd. Welcome to Debbie Rank, our Director of Christian Education. Debbie began her work at Good Shepherd on June 1st and has been getting acclimated to her new position. She helped at Vacation Bible School this summer and looks forward to getting to know more people as the summer goes on. Planning for fall activities is beginning and we all look forward to having her here.

Sunday School Celebration

Mark your calendar - Sunday, May 16th is the last day of Sunday school for this school year. Parents and Sunday school volunteers, please join us at 9:15am as we sing songs from this year, test our knowledge of what we learned, and enjoy an end-of-year party in Fellowship Hall with refreshments! All are welcome - please join us!

BAOBOB BLAST - Registration begins

We will be meeting under the Baobob tree this year June 14th-June 18th. Registration Kick-off is this Sunday, May 2nd. The VBS team is sponsoring coffee hour after the 10:30 a.m. service on that day, and we will be featuring special music and treats. You can register your children, your neighbors, your relatives to be a part of our VBS this year. Each family will receive a CD with this year’s music when they register. Please join us for food, music and registration time.

Grandma Love retires!

Our nursery staff person, Grandma Love, is retiring May 23rd. She has watched over our children in the nursery for 8 1/2 years. We will be celebrating her time with us on the 23rd and also celebrating new members at a potluck after worship. Plan on joining us - to welcome all the members who have joined this past year and to say goodby to Grandma Love. Watch for a way that you can contribute to a gift for her as a remembrance of her time at Good Shepherd.

Baobob Blast - VBS Registration Starts

VBS registration begins Sunday, May 2nd. Come and join us after worship for fellowship and to register your child for this week of learning, crafts and fun. The dates of VBS are June 14 - 18 and the program will run from 5:00pm till 8:00pm each evening. Join us on the 2nd for food, music and to find out how you can help!

Good Friday Children's Service

Join us for our annual Good Friday Children's Service designed for children age 4 through 5th grade on Friday April 2nd, at 10:30am. The service will last about an hour and include songs, a craft and discovering what really happened on this Holy Day.

Thanks to all who bought baked goods from the Confirmands and to the adults who helped them have a successful bake sale. Over $150.00 was raised from the Valentine's Day sale and was sent to the ELCA Disaster Relief fund to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.

Easter Breakfast Planning Meeting - March 14th

High schoolers and Confirmation students and parents - we need your help!

The Easter Breakfast - served between services on Easter Sunday - is a fundraiser for our high school youth programs. Money raised from this goes towards retreats, activities and the National Youth Gathering.

We need you - parents and students - to help with the coordination and preparation of breakfast - generally pancakes and sausages. We are holding a planning meeting on Sunday, March 14th after the second service - please join us and let us know how you can help. Baobob Blast!

Join us this Sunday, February 21st after the 10:30 worship service as we begin planning for our summer VBS program, Baobob Blast!

Baobob Blast will be held the week of June 14th - 18th. This evening program begins with supper and is filled with crafts, story, games and music for kids. We need adult leaders, meal makers, craft organizers, music people, and games helpers. It takes a congregation to put on a great week. Watch for sign up opportunities on how you can help.

SPARK Sunday School

We just started a new Bible lesson - Jesus having dinner with Simon the Pharisee. You can find it in Luke 7:36 - 50. Simon invites Jesus to his home and an uninvited guest shows up and ministers to Jesus. Ask your child what they have learned so far - we will be talking about Jesus and Simon for the next two Sundays.

During Lent, we will be talking about the story of the Last Supper as well as the Holy Week and Easter stories.

Christian Education Opportunities

What kinds of Christian Education programs does Good Shepherd have? Well, we have educational opportunities for all ages - from infant to adult.

Join us on Sunday mornings for Sunday school - for ages 2 through 6th grade, our Confirmation class for 7th & 8th graders and Breakfast Club for high schoolers. Then, we also offer two adult classes - an adult Bible study and an adult forum for discussion.

In addition to Sunday mornings, our Confirmands also meet on Wednesdays at 6:30pm.

There is another adult Bible Study which meets during the day on Wednesdays as well.
